So basically, Russia was able to keep the tensions low and prevent escalation without firing a shot and without a single person dead. We, the US tried to "bring order" to Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia by bombing the hell out of it. Then we interfered in Ukraine, leading to riots and 100 deaths. I'm not sure why we think our way is better.

The only good policy here is letting the EU handle the mess they have created. Why does it seem that the foreign policy of this administration is always aimed at helping the wrong side either helping Al Qaeda in Syria, or nazis in Kiev.

This is between Ukraine, Russia and Eastern Europe. US lawmakers and Obama need to stay far away from this mess.

Fact is that service members in the Ukrainian Armed Services are defecting in droves to the Russian Army. Ukrainian Navy flagship has also raised the Russian flag on its mast. Goes to show what happens when the west support anarchists of neo-Nazi and radical nationalist elements to overthrow a democratic government. The government in Ukraine is illegitimate and unconstitutional and does not represent the people of Ukraine.

Oh please, USA still occupies Germany, Japan, South Korea , has militarily bases in those and almost every other country on earth. Now when Russia wants something that was theirs in the first place we are hearing those cries about the end of the world. Pathetic.

We certainly should get high marks for nerve! The USA lecturing other nations about invading Sovereign Nations! We have attacked more nations since the Cold War ended than all of the major powers on the planet combined!

Better than dropping napalm on villages as the US did in Vietnam, or using cluster bombs and depleted uranium munitions in Bush's invasion of Iraq.

I have no idea how the big picture will play out but this I would bet on...Ukraine can kiss Crimea good-bye, just as Georgia did to South Ossetia and Abkhazia. That will be the least of the cost of the Kiev insurgents' violent overthrow of the elected government.

Why do we always chose the wrong side?

To be honest, the protesters should have put their trust in the democratic process. There have been more European-friendly Presidents in the past. I don't know why America and the west continues to support political coups, especially when the protesters were kidnapping cops. In the cases where there was more than just a political disagreement, rebellion is justified. But Ukraine, Thailand... not so sure.

Plus, there seems to have always been a large amount of pro-Russian sentiment in Ukraine. Again, usurping the Democratic process was obviously going to piss them off and lead to political instability. Crimea seems to basically be a bastion of pro-Russians. And the recently appointed Navy Commander swore allegiance to Crimea in front of the interim President. And of course, Russia is Russia, and this instability is basically an open welcome to Russia!

If you look at the map you will see that NATO block is almost completely surrounded Russian west part and Ukraine and a few countries in Caucasus region is the only tiny space left on the Russian west border free of NATO members.

What's happening in Crimea is not about Ukraine but about NATO expansion if Ukraine chooses pro-western government. This is the main driving point for Putin to make sure Crimea is kept as semi-separatist part of the Ukraine (not adding it to the Russia) and keeping Russian military base there. This ensures Ukraine can't join NATO (same like Georgia can't because of Abhazia region). NATO is Cold War rudiment and as we saw all these years does not care about abiding international laws and bombing countries left and right. Eventually Russian government does not feel comfortable having such "neighbor" and does everything it can to fight back. Everybody would do. Ukraine just happened to be the place when it's happening now. Like Georgia in 2008.

Eventually there are other reasons for escalations but that's the main one.

As we see at the moment Russia is not keen to send troops into Ukraine, at least there is no evidence of any large troops migrations across the border. As you might notice on many of the video clips many russian soldiers don't even have clips in ak-s while patrolling the streets. Cause no reason.

Jimmy Carter 2.0 is back in office. Another president without a spine who just wants to be liked by his base. He keeps lying to the American people and other world leaders over and over. He chooses what laws he wants to enforce and what laws it wants to ignore. A spineless wimp that bows to muslim leaders and ignores Christians being killed and persecuted all over the world. Why? because Christians don't vote for radical evil democrats. Like oprah who said she is just waiting for old white people to die off, obama wants conservative Christians to do the same. obama is a lying traitor.

We should be silent. We invaded dozen souvereign countries in last 20 years.

The GOP is once again screaming for us to go to war. They want us all-in in Ukraine, Venezuela and Syria. And when another conflict arises as it will somewhere in the world, they'll accuse Obama again of being "weak and indecisive" if we don't get involved.

GOP, listen very carefully. We're sick and tired of sending our men and women to war, ESPECIALLY after the self-serving preemptive invasion of Iraq that unnecessarily cost so many lives. How about you war trumpeters gather your kids and grandkids, put them in front of you on TV and declare they will all serve and fight your war? No? Shut up then.

Russia to US after Obama's warning - Ответ России США после предупреждения Обамы."
